New 7610 Nokia Smartphone-series 60!!!

Sharpen and smarten your image with the new Nokia megapixel phone
March 17, 2004

Stylish and slim Nokia 7610 combines robust imaging capabilities with multiple smartphone features

Hanover, Germany - On a makeshift catwalk, Nokia grabbed the spotlight at CeBIT 2004 with the introduction of the sleek Nokia 7610 imaging device, the company's first megapixel camera phone. Encased in fashionable dual-tone ruby and onyx-colored covers, the slim and stylish Nokia 7610 phone offers quick and convenient capturing, printing, storing and sending of photo-quality images and videos in addition to the benefits of the Series 60 Platform. The tri-band model is planned to be available during the second quarter of 2004 in two variants, GSM 900/1800/1900 and GSM 850/1800/1900. It is expected to retail for approximately ˆ500.

Printing is a breeze for users of the Nokia 7610 imaging device - pictures can be turned into prints in just a few seconds via a Bluetooth connection to a compatible printer or by using a printer kiosk available in Nokia branded retail locations or other photo shops. Using the Kodak Pictures application on the phone, pictures can be uploaded to a virtual photo album on the web and shared online with others or ordered as prints via an online service. The Nokia 7610 phone offers a 65,000 color screen for viewing still images and video captured by the integrated camera and watching real-time video streaming using the built-in RealOne mobile player. The megapixel (1152 X 864) camera features a high-quality lens, 4x digital zoom, and a self-timer. The Nokia 7610 imaging device also allows users to capture images in low-light conditions.

"Digital imaging has developed in ways that were unimaginable when digital cameras first entered the mainstream only five years ago. In 2003, the number of camera phones sold outnumbered digital cameras. We are now entering an era where camera phones will become mainstream imaging devices," says Juha Putkiranta, Nokia's Senior Vice President, Imaging Business Unit. "With the introduction of the Nokia 7610, Nokia's first megapixel imaging device, capturing spontaneous print-quality images no longer requires a separate camera. Your megapixel camera is now always in your pocket, built into your phone."

The Nokia 7610 is designed specifically for consumers who create trends, not follow them. More than simply sharing pictures with friends and family, Nokia 7610 users can create short films or even music videos of up to 10 minutes by shooting and editing the footage captured with their imaging device. By using the Movie Director application, users can, for the first time, turn video clips captured with their Nokia 7610 into personal movies by adding special effects such as music, text, new colors or moving objects. The application automatically combines multiple video clips into a single video vignette or optimizes the edited videos for MMS sending.

Another innovative concept available for the Nokia 7610 is the Nokia Lifeblog application, which adds an automatic digital diary to the pockets of trendsetters. The phone application records and organizes digital content - such as images, videos or messages - creating a personal logbook or multimedia memo directly on the phone. When transferred to Nokia Lifeblog on the PC, people can browse and search their multimedia diary in an easy to use timeline or share diary items with friends or family via email. Additionally, the Adobe® Photoshop® Album software included in the sales package allows Nokia 7610 phone users to organize and edit digital pictures on their PC's.

The other key features of the Nokia 7610 include rich Multimedia Messaging, email, and MP3/AAC music player, Internet browser, 72MB of expandable memory, USB, Bluetooth connectivity and support for Java technology. The small and sleek 118 gram and 93cc phone offers up to 3 hours talk-time and 250 hours of standby time. With a wide selection of applications designed for Series 60 based devices, people can customize their Nokia 7610 imaging phones with the applications they require to be most creative.

I'm just hoping this is not all Nokia has to announce at CeBIT this year, phonewise that is.
I was hoping for a good looking 8100 and 8800 for example, and maybe a fashoin-type 6230 or something.

Anyone know if any of that might still be announced in the coming days?

well, its quite an improvement for nokia already. i think they should work on improving their 65k screens before moving on...

i think this is a good effort by nokia to try and change their designs. to me, it's a better change than the square phone.

I really don't think 4x as many colours is really going to be very noticeable if at all on such a small screen. I'd say other screen characteristics would be a lot more important.

Now, if we were talking about 16.7 million colours it'd be a different story!

They don't need to improve thier 65k screens, better screens are already available like 265k color screens and they know it... the other thing they should improve is the battery...what good is the phone features if you are concrened of running out of battery life

But that is exactly what Nokia has always been good at, especially compared to the likes of Samsung and Siemens.

it's all a matter of taste, this phone looks good in my opinion, i like the styling. the black and red version looks better though. looks better than the 6600 to me, i wonder if nokia will learn and make the smaller mmc card externally accesible, does anyone have information regarding the memory card access? and the real player seems to play mp3 files, no sign of stereo though..

Where did you got this info?

It's Pop-port, which is stereo, and as it supports MP3's it should be stereo like every other Nokia phone that supports MP3's... Same as 6620.

What in the freakin hell is this....7xxx should be fashion phones not CRAP...I think nokia went tooooooo far with this....they have to get some decent ideas for keypads...what the hell is wrong with them...first the 7210..then 3650...them3200..then...7250...then the TACO 7700 design..then the 7600 design and then this crap design....goood features in a baaad design...
and U cant record your videos to the external memory so only 10 minutes of video!!! Also the MMC is still behind the battery:S

bu_7assooon
only 10 minutes of video is not that bad i think... and you can save videos to external memory that's no problem... where did you heard that???

Sorry, but are the SE creators/designer so great?
They have made so very modern classy phones like the T610, P and the Z serie, very nice, but there ideas are fading away, noting really original lately, neighter the K700 or the S700 looks so special to me.
Nokia is one of the only company's that are trying to bring something new to the marked and this is an example... Something funky and why not, some like it others don't... if not, don't buy this...

I don?t understand you people screaming "ugly!!" about Nokia phones. I don?t hear you say that about the boring, ridiculous, unimaginative Samsung and LG phones with their completely overexploited silver-clamshell-with-external-antenna design. Nokia designs are by far the most innovative, and their sales number prove they are on the right track. The 7600 keys are the best I have seen, because they allow you to do fast typing with your right thumb. The only thing you can complain about is that it discriminates against left-handed people.

that's what i meant when i called people like McKinely and Draak a hypocryte.
i'm not defending nokia but, if it was a SE design it would be they would be completely different. Like to me the k700 design is not consistent, it looks like two different phones stuck into one, like a honda rear stuck onto a ferrari.

Q: How many SE hardware engineers does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: None: "We'll fix it in software."

Frankly said I do not like the look of K700 that much, I very much prefer the look of T610.
But what K700 does have is an aluminum body which feels so good in your hand.
I really don't like plastic things and Nokia 7610 does not only look very plastic but it will for sure feel very plastic as well.
It is very interesting with a brands which dare to try something different design wise.
Apple is a good example and they manage to seduce almost all PC users with their design.
Nokia is another example of a brand which dare to make something different but they fail to seduce majority of all people.
They make ugly things, just accept that I think NOKIA MAKE UGLY THINGS!

ghost2501

It seems you are the only hypocrite in here.
Just accept other peoples' opinion they are far the same as yours.
Another thing, I would never lie to myself to like products just because of particularly brand get that before you comment your nonsense crap.
Accept this, NOKIA MAKE UGLY THINGS! and that is my opinion.

They only believe Nokia is the only manufacture that really wants to make a change in design but how many mobiles do have "two" fronts?
One mobile front and one digital camera front.
For now it is only Sony Ericsson.

Nokia is basicly the only vendor that have guts to use different shapes and desings in their phones.

Talking about SE: I think that they have hired those Volvo desinger from the 80's. You know, those box-shaped cars. SE phones today are just the same. But oh well, box is a shape too. :-)
