Nokia today expanded its range of traditional phones with an introduction of a the new Nokia 3120 phone. The 3120 uses a traditional "phone only" design, but includes features generally found only on higher-end handsets.

Talking about 7200 being a flop. Have you noticed Cnet's Most popular handsets in April?
1. Nokia 6600
2. Nokia 7200
3. Nokia 6230
And about 7600... It's the most selling 3G handset in 3 UK even it's not subsidiced by the the 3 network.

The tri-band (GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 Mhz) 3120 is a traditional candybar design, sporting a 128 x 128 pixel color display and offering MMS support, polyphonic ring tones, Java support including several pre-installed games, and animated screen savers. Additional Java programs are downloadable over WAP. Nokia has also released a number of accessories, which it bills as "enhancements", specifically targeted at the new handset. These include the Nokia Fun Camera, a stand-alone VGA camera with its own viewfinder, flash, and power supply and the Nokia Radio Headset which supports stereo FM radio. All accessories use Nokia's Pop-Port for connectivity. The Nokia 3120 will be available in the Asia-Pacific market in mid-April in multiple colors. |

nokia will always sell the most phones (for next 5 years at least), its just that there market share was insane and is now coming down to more realistic levels because of better competition. Their newer top end models to be shown soon (in development for 3+ years) will pretty much outclass everything for design.

Yes, we all know that Nokia can design nice looking phones, but sometimes at the expense of vital functions, such as keypad layout etc.
What I want to see, is more functionality. Bigger screens would be a good start.

Nokia was indeed living in a dream world, and shared it with there investors. but now there are back to earth, and realising the competition is bigger then expected. they have some gabs in there portfolio and made some design foulds (like the 3650, 7600) and some havy investments in a wrong serie (N-gage) but they are learning from there mistakes...

SonyE is doing reasonably well considering they were losing money like crazy just a few years ago.
However their market share is just too small to challenge Nokia, and it's not growing fast enough.
Going back to Nokia, I must say they've brought this upon themselves. The 7200 is such a half-hearted attempt to topple Samsung's foothold in the clamshell market, and they're taking too many risks with their designs; the 7600 is not selling well and people have gotten too bored of the 3650's look to be compelled to buy the 3660. The 7610 is but another nail in their coffin, and did they seriously think something as incredibly hideous as the 7700 could sell?
They've just gotten too complacent; they've lost the magic that made them no.1 in the first place.
As for the 3120, I think it looks quite nice, but it reminds me of the old 3210.

yeah you're quite right. n-gage wasn't too good. 7200 can't compete, but really, it's good as a starting point. you gotta start somewhere.
7610 i think is gonna be reasonably okay. a few people are interested already and the design isn't really too bad, the keypad is not relocated but rather, only wonkatated
yeah 7700 looks so crappy. i agree. i doubt itll get any reasonable sales
n-gage QD might be okay. aslong as they significantly drop its price
6230 is gonna be a big hit obviously
ghibli said most of the rest of the stuff i wanted to say

At last, a normal looking mid-class phone from Nokia! I have the Nokia 3200 for a review now, the keyboard, design, and screen sucks but it's not an bad phone at all. Sharp CIF shots from the camera and the IrDa is excellent without any use of software, like my Ericsson T68 and Motorola MPX200. I can send stuff from my T68 to my MPX200 to the Nokia 3200 and over. Works perfectly, whish Samsung did something to this, the e700's irda is cripple

I never worry about Nokia...of ourse Samsung is giving Nokia a big competition...but Samsung and other brands still far away to catch up on Nokia for the user-friendly interface...
if a phone has a bad interface, bad reception and lack of functions...who cares how does the phone flips?...who cares about the rotating screen?...who cares how amazing of the design?
A lot of phone manufacturers are buying the Symbian interface from Nokia...this proves that many of the phone manufacturers still lose in the main point of a phone...
however...Nokia still gotta catch up on its design, ringtones, screen and overall built quality...

You know, I saw a lot of people buying an E700 just because they like the design of the phone. They don't care if the menu is worth or better than Nokia's one. They found the phone so nice and they simply bought it!

nokia is now leader but if it will not develope itself and use stn 128x128 screens or 65536 colored screens it will fail. for example motorola v1000 has all properties that the s40 and s60 phones has.

the main confusion is due to nokia not having disclosed details of their premium line. when they release a new premium line, it dominates the market. everyone bought 8210, everyone bought 8310, everyone who could afford it bought 8910 - those phones are nokia's defining phones and never fail.. and they have a lot of new premium ones coming this year which have been in development since the end of 8310. It's hard to say anything without description, but basically, these things are going to appeal, and many people will be moving back to nokia on the strength of these new releases. At the end of the 2004 year, Nokia line up will look very very good, I guarantee it.
(in articles they often admit to high competition etc, but its all marketing strategy, they're not going to say "we have secret handsets that will beat everything" and give competition motivation like that) SE have 2 very slick and smart phones out end of 2004 also (GSM P series update + 3G designer model), but overall line up does not match Nokia still IMO.
