Bl-6c

Hey, can any one tell something about this new battery? It's listed as the standart battery for the new n-gage. When will it be available , i got really sick of with the current uptime of BL-5C battery with my n-gage. By the way , when i bought the n-gage first time , the loud speaker was awsome. It soundad crystal clear, which would impress any one, and i thought that it was very good. After a week or so , my n-gage died, and replaced b the service. The new phone's sound quality is not as good as the old one , it has a hissing sound at the background, and the lower frequency sound quality is worse. I had no chance to remove the screws and had a look at the speaker , can the speaker be replaced as well? And one more question , i wan to find out some face plates for n-gage , but there seems to be very few on the internete and I did not like them .

what I wanted to know is can you put bl6c any nokia phone? or would it blow up?

Does it have the same dimension ad the bl5 ? same cotacts and such ? if it the same.. why should't it work.. would only take a bit longer to charge ??

I'd believe the main reason QD is thicker than N-Gage is because of thicker battery, so I don't think we can use BL-6C in N-Gage

1070 mAh is very good for such a small battery, nice... I hope they going to use this in more devices...µ
Only compatible with the N-gage QD

is the BL-6C thicker than BL-5C??...make sure it first...if they are the same...then 6600 can use the battery...some of my friend even use a 8250 battery in his 3310...

same size except bl-6c is slightly thicker but works in all phones that accept bl-6c.

6230--6600 which one and why>

(this question asked casue over here , both the phones cost the same )

Do you need a phone or a smartphone?

I would agree with oTaRu that large screen and Symbian 7.0 OS is good. However I personally prefer a phone with stereo for convienient mp3 playback. I couldn;t care less about the smartphone features as java apps serve me fine as it is. That said if the 6600 supported stereo mp3 then I would have a harder time considering based on the look and feel of the phones. The 6230 is not as fat as the 6600 and I do not think the 6600 supports EDGE.

Having said all that I do want to make it clear that it's all about preference as to what you use the phone for yourself and what you find to be value for money. I am not against the 6600 or its featureset at all. Both phones are good.

Right. Depends on what you want from it. Word can draw tables too, but Excel is designed for tables...

So, if your primarily use phone to make calls - 6230, if it is more like PDA for you - 6600.

BTW, it is really hard to use Series40 flat user interface after Symbial-style app grid... command line vs GUI :-)

Urgent! in need of Technical Information about 6230 & 7600 Reception/Netwrok Errors

URGENT : PLEASE READ THIS & GIMME YOUR OPINION AS SOON AS POSSINBLE

hello people,

i'm in a very urgent situation & i hope someone would reveal a very instant solution for my problem,

well, my father gonna go to Dubai tomorrow, so i gonna ask him to buy me a Nokia 6230 and i'm very excited about it, but something really important bothers me alot and its about network errors .. let me explain it more....

a few months ago i bought a Nokia 7600 but i had to sell it just 2 days after i bought it, acutally it had a networking problem... although the phone went into the Network & the network logo appeared on my mobile's display but i couldnt make any telephone calles, i only could make telephone calls in some parts of the city and in ther parts i couldnt, actually whenever i wanted to make a telephone call, after i pressed the dial button, after some few second later it would show the ERROR IN CONNECTION Error and i couldnt make any calls and also no one could call me too, and strangly at this time that i couldnt make any telephone calls, i still could send / recieve Sms messages... so i thought maybe the phone is not registered into our network, i went to the telecommuinication centre for asking them to register the phoen for me (coz before this case, when i used to have the SE T610 i also had to register to let it work on our's network and it successfully registered) ... but when i wanted to register my 7600, the man at the telecommunican centre told me that becoz this 7600 is a new phone, our Network cannot accept it as a valid phone, and its problem wont solve by simply register it, Nokia itself should come and upgrade thier Network Switches to let these new phones become valid...

so i had to sell my 7600 coz it wouldnt work on our network, and even till this date , nokia hasnt upgrade thier Network Switches here...

now let me tell u all GSM nokia phones are working perfectly here, and non of them have any Network problems, except 7600...
(btw, 7200 hasnt released here yet)

now i wanna know do u know if 6230 has the same Networking Setup as previous nokia phones like 6600 ? or its based on the new network setting just like 7600...

coz if 6230's networking settings are based on 7600, this it aint gonna work on our network, so its totally useless for me to buy it,...but if its under the same settings like 6600 or 7650 , 7250 and other nokia phones, then it will work here...

btw, i today i went to Nokia's official dealer here, sadly they still havent heard of 6230, so they couldnt tell me if its working in our network or not, but they told me newer models after 6600 aint gonna work in our network, (due its needed to upgrade thier network settings) ... but i'm not sure of this, becoz of two reasons.. first of all, last month i bought 2300 from dubai and its working perfectly on our network, but they said all newer models after 6600 aint gonna work here, but my 2300 did work... and another reason that i think maybe 6230 gonna work is becoz i think 6230 is based on 7250 series in the networking settings, (isnt it) ? ....

so i wanna know do u know if 6230 has the same networking settings as previous nokia phones.. or it has the same setting like the 7600 ?

please guide me as fast as possible, i wanna know if my father should buy 6230 from dubai for or not.

thanx and sorry if my story turned this long.

I'm not an expert in this but I think n7600 works on a WCDMA and GSM 900/1800 networks maybe your network got confused on the WCDMA part. On the otherhand n6230 works on EGSM 900, GSM 1800, and GSM 1900 networks, maybe there's a good chance it will connect to your network properly. I'm not sure but you can ask your service provider if they support EGSM 900, GSM 1800, and GSM 1900 bands.

yes, i gotta say i'm agree with u... i also found out the difference of 7600's network details than other nokia phones...
but if i'm correct, 6230 has the same network details just like 6600 and 7250 , isnt it? so if its the same, there's no point it aint gonna work here, or at least it simply need to be registered on the network, since its a new phone to the network (just as i told u, when i bought t610 from dubai last spring, it wasnt still available here, so i had to brought it to the mobile centre to ask for the registration myself and it worked perfectly afterwards)...

yeah, about the Nokia's seller, as i told u already he even didnt knew about the presence of nokia 6230, so he really didnt knew if there's a model called 6230, but he told me all nokia phones which released after 6600 are not working in iranian's network...
(but its not true, coz 2300 released ages after 6600 and it worked perfectly in our network...and even i didnt had to register it)
so do u think what he said is logical? do u know whats the difference between 6600 and other models that released after it? i mean in terms of network settings and that stuff....?

i really donno what to do, ... i still have hope about 6230, coz its different than 7600's special case...

but i would be pleased to know more about this, perhaps do u know if the theory of the nokia's seller is logical ? is it logical? why it is?

well.. thank u very very much for trying to help me please inform me if u have more information to share

thanx

by the way, i somehow found out the nokia's seller didnt want me to buy a phone from abroad... u know, logically they want to custumers to buy the phones from themselves... and not from other shops or other places...

but then again, i'm not sure thats why i'm mixed up... i gotta make my decision soon before my dad leaves...

(technicans, i need your help to guide me about this subject )

Thats odd, it the first time I heard that phones needs to be registered in the network coz at my service provider that as long that they support your band like GSM 1800, 1900 it will work and the only things needed to be registered if you want to have sms service or roaming or MMS, also when we went to the USA we tested the n6600 there and it worked even its not out yet. so i think that it depends on the networks if they support the type of band that your phone is capable off.

sometimes when u buy a phone from other countries and it hasnt yet released by the official dealers here, u have to register it on the telecomminucation centre, ... they simply ask your IMEI code and they will register it (that make take a few days to be registered)

... btw, so could u gimme some more opinions about my problem? thanx

HUM... i've just made another research and came with these details :

NOKIA 6600 Network GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900
NOKIA 6230 Network GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900
NOKIA 7600 Network UMTS / GSM 900 / GSM 1800

... so that reveals the difference between 6600 and 6230 in comparision with 7600 ... isnt it?

7600 supports UTMS and GSM 900 / 1800 but 6230 and 6600 support GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 ...

can it be becoz of that? maybe our network is based on GSM 1900 and since 7600 doesnt have GSM 1900 is not working on our network.. could be possible? can it be the reason that why 7600 is not working here?

i have to say i really dont have specific information about the networking settings, but can my theory be right?

please please inform me with your opinions
__________________
but also i've checked something else...

NOKIA 1100 Network GSM 900 / GSM 1800

..., please consider 1100 works perfectly on our network.
acutally its a very complicated situation, ...also some previous nokia phones very only supporting 900/1800 and not 1900... but they were also working on our network...

so can anyone make a clear conclusion out of these infos? do u think 6230 gonna work here, while considering it has 900/1800/1900 (and at the same time consider that 7600 has UMTS/900/1800 and not working on our network)

.. lol ..its a very mixed up thing, but i really hope someone help me and tell me if there is any chance that 6230 gonna work in out network

Where did you buy your 7600? It seems it simply had wrong RF settings for your network 850/1800/1900 instead of 900/1800/1900... so areas with 1800 coverage were fine

BTW, Nokia does not upgrade any networks - it is up to local operator (private company) to upgrade it... not necessarily using Nokia-made equipment

i bought it from here, but the seller had brought it from dubai back then, (but anyway 7600 is not working in our network even till this day at all becoz of the reaons that i told u, and 7600 is the only exception of nokia gsm phones which are not working in out network)

hum, so u think it had the wrong RF ? how it could be fixed? btw, even nokia's official dealer dont sell it anymore coz its not working here at all. and since the nokia dealer is very stupid, they cannot verify whats the problem with 7600 and so its problem its uknown to the customer too.

and finally, we only have one Mobile Network here which runs by our goverment.

Wrong theory. 1900 band is used in US only

so then can u tell me what might be the problem? oki, 6230 and 6600 both support 900/1800/1900 and 7600 support Umts/900/1800

so why 7600 is not working? and if u think 7600 as an exception, do u think 6230 will be work just like 6600 and other nokia phones?

and the nokia dealer told me the nokia phones which released after 6600 wont work on our network becoz the mobile network needs to be upgraded coz these new models have a different setting... but i couldnt find the difference between them and the previous ones and more importantly, i have 2300 and it works perfectly here although it released ages after the release of 6600... and nokia's offical dealer is very stupid indeed, one of my guesses is becoz they havent released 6230 yet, thats why maybe they told me 6230 wont work here

It is hard to say knowing virtually nothing about your phone/network....

Very likely disabling WCDMA could have helped...

Quite strange that you have only one government-controlled GSM network... According to GSM group requirements there should be at least 2 competing operators...

o, sorry i didnt get what u meant by this "Very likely disabling WCDMA could have helped..." how it could be disabled?

oh about the GSM requirments, lol dont be surprised.. in iran u can expect anything to happen.

It would not be correct to compare 6600 and 7600 since those are different phones (Series60 and Series40)...

One thing what makes 7600 special is that it supports WCDMA... 2nd after 6650

Maybe your dealer mixes up something... 6600 supports TCP/IP (no WAP stack anymore) and most likely their network is not ready for it yet... but that affects data services only, not voice calls

(well we dont have WAP and MMS) and only SMS here as the messaging service.

and finally as your opinion, do u think 6230 would work on our network just like all other nokia phones, or it would be like 7600 that didnt worked on our network.

well, yeah, i've never had any problems with 6600 & 2300, acutally our network is not very updated, and it has lots of errors within itself, and i as i told you, we dont even have WAP & MMS after all, its very basic and we can use our network only for making calls and messaging as SMS.

but nokia phones work very very well in comparison to other brands in our network, brands like Motorola and Panasonic has the most problems in our networks, and brands like SE and Siemens are working SO-SO, they are not good and not that bad, and finally Samsung's are also working good here too,

if i wanna tell you which phones work at the best in our network, i would sort them like this way :

1 nokia
2 samsung
3 se
4 siemens
5 lg
6 motorola
7 panasonic

Smirf, thanx for the link , acutally i read it and i found the following post kinda similar to my problem with my 7600's story , isnt it? i mean that member said the phone is automatically based on the 3g service, and if u dont have 3g in your area, then the phones to the log on to the normal network, but since its settings are based on 3g, it cannot log in the normal networks, and for this matter you have to change the software of the phone, isnt it? am i get it right? so then, i guess since 6230 is not a 3g phone, then i wouldnt have any problems like this in out network, isnt it?

--------------

(this is the post which member Richardyates said about 3g & 7600)

The 7600 is locked to a setting which makes it look for 3g networks first. (It needs to be reflashed to enable a menu which allows it to be set the other way round). If like me you live in an area where the other networks are testing 3g services, this basically means that if it finds a 3g network it will try to log onto that. Since you aren't authorised to log onto a 3g network, it will then assume your sim is not valid, and won't allow you to log onto that network's 2g network either.

Here for example I can find 3g networks from Vodafone, T-mobile and Orange. If I put my virgin sim in, the phone identifies it as a subset of t-mobile sim cards and tries to log onto the t-mobile 3g network. When that fails, it just sits there and doesn't try to log onto the 2g network.

So although it can be done, you need someone to reflash it with the right software.

cheers

Richard

so? did u get the same thing that i found out too?

oh, thanx for the tip on the network ... i wish nokia's dealer had some more knowledge and info too, they are bunch of stupid ppl actually, once one of them spoke to me in a very very rude way... they think they are veru unique and so OFFICIAL.

anyway and also thanx for ur tip about 6230 too

thank u very much indeed

Why to buy such expensive phones if you can not enjoy most of their benefits just because the only available network does not support them? You pay premium for functions you'd never use...

Note: You don't have to answer this, only if you want to

hum, well...i didnt get which phone u meant, if u meant 7600, then i have to say mainly i once bought it for its unique design, but the other reason was its good quality camera and its decent memory storage (29mb) .. but honestly i mainly bought it for its design and i really loved it, but since it didnt work on our network so i had to sell it anyway.

but if u mean 6230, ... well... it has many functions indeed, decent camera, expandable memory, mp3, mp3 ringtones, its small and light and also its new and solid and its beautiful to my eyes... i think 6230 is one of those phones that u can use it for a long time acutally... it has a time-less design, plus its packed with almost all of the good features... that why

well.. anyway, since i never used WAP or EMS, due the fact they are not available in our service, so i still really dont have the need to have them,... u know.
i would be happy if WAP and EMS become available soon, but aside from these two options, other options like Design and Camera and Memory are more important to me to have than wap or ems...

once again, thanx for your help

Nokia became popular, after launching the models like 3210, 3310 for youth, and the 5110 and 6110 for business...
why? good screen, good battery life and great features like the game Snake, SMS, Calendar, ...
that all combined with a good strategie and marketing...
but here is a thread in this forum more about it... Mayby intresting to read...

Thanks kristof for adding the part on battery, could help my analysis on Nokia.

design wise, they introduced changeable covers (i believe come out on 3210), composer which came out on 3310 (with people having their favourite songs as their ringtones, which lead to the ringtone industry itself), some people found the white light in 8850/8310 very lovely....

its really unfortunate their creativity towards the wrong direction, i seriously have no idea what they are doing in that department....real odd designs, just killing themselves

just relying on their brand image i guess

Nokia's brand image isn't strong any more. Not now that SE have come out with such amazing phones. I think they are absolutely the most reliable phones on the market.

But their brand image is still stronger than those other choices =P

the 5110 was the first mobile with Xpress covers..
They were very inventive back then, And they still want to be that way, but that is the problem, they became to experimental (like the 7600/3650/(3510i)/3200/3300)
that is sometimes no mistake (because they have a lot of cash reserves they can risk a failure, unlike some other brands)
and some of there ideas of making types of phones (for everyone is a nokia phone)
like the communicator (who did this back then)
like the 8810 (a premium device)
like the 6250 (5210/5140) a mobile for active people
like the 8210/8310 fashion series
like the 6800 (full keypath)

but other company's are taking over these stratagies, and that is a part where nokia getting more competition. other company's are learning out of there own mistakes, and the succes of others.

But nokia misses some product in there gamma at this moment, like more clamshell phones, more phones in the mid range (like the 6100, 6610, etc)

Never the less Nokia got some great phones in there portfolio at this moment (like the 6230/5140/6820/9500)

Never jugde a company by there worst products...

I'd say one of the good points of Nokia (which is probably more valid six months or a year ago rather than now) is that they have attempted to 'catch' their market and move with it. For example - a young person with a 3310 might have chosen an 8310 and now be moving on to a 6600 or a 7200. Nokia's are regarded as a 'safe' choice within a peer group and Nokia work on this by bringing out news series' of phones which distinctively express the brand.

The 'safety' of the brand is personified by the layout and relative ease of use of the menus in the Nokia phones. When some people experience a Moto or SE they are often confused - in my experience the default method of navigation in a certain generation stems from the basic design of the Nokia interface.

I agree with the earlier comment about the introduction of clip on covers - in the more low budget market this is a cheap and disbensable method of personalisation, and this is invaluable.

These are just my opinions though, and I'm no phone expert! Good luck with your research x

Well in the past it was in my eyes that Nokia built good phones. The RF and UI were superb and they did the basic functions of what you wanted out of a phone consistently well. The quality of components I always found was good too. Add to that their Xpress covers really tailored to individuality and the youth market. They put out a decent spread of phones as well for all markets. They were really in a league of their own early on since most other companies were putting out crap.

Where Nokia fell down in my eyes is first they really haven't pushed the high end as much as other companies or innovated on technology a whole lot. On paper their phones have started to languish a bit and although the high end isn't a huge fraction of the market it is an important fraction.

Where they have innovated more recently is in the design of the phone's case and to be frank I think most of them are hideous. Putting phones in all sorts of ridiculous form factors to look different has in my eyes been one of their biggest mistakes along with their refusal to produce flip phones. The 7200 had the potential to be a great turnaround there but I think they made a mistake when they went for such a small screen (I don't care much about screen size but it's small when you look at the area around it) and a poor hinge design.

nokia is doing foolish things to loose its first position by repeating its model with same thing, 6600 is same as 3660, 6100 same as 7210, 7250 same as 3200, what to say more, i had nokia phone earlier at the era of 3310 but now i have gone to other brands who give more value for money than nokia

where do you get this?

the 6100 the same as the 7210?
the 6600 the same as the 3660?
the 7250 the same as the 3200?

they don't even use the same body... only the same parts like screen, camera or OS, like every mobile company does that...

the 7210 is the same as the 6610, because it has got the same body with different covers, but the 6100 is a total different body.
same for the 6600 vs 3660, they use the same screen, but not the same body.

please, if you want to say something, check your sources first!!!

Guys, having read the AWSJ.

Samsung just surpassed Nokia's market capitalisation. I also having recalled reading Samsung overtaking Motorola in *Asia* being #2 with Nokia still leading.

Samsung's share price jumped 50% in just a matter of months...

Yes, there is something that distinguishes a Nokia from any other phone, and that is the Nokia badging. That's enough to make people love the phone, and more than enough to make them overlook the negative aspects, for if it's a Nokia, there's no coming to terms with any flaws...
