like the new Vertu?

And? what do you find about the new Vertu. (except the price offcourse).
I think the first one looks better, more slim than the new one, althow we don't have to buy it for the features, just for the looks. But Frank did his best disigning this phone.

old one

You can see the new one on the start page of mobile review, right colum... 'Vertu Ascent'

I had a conversation with my driver when we headed to Monte Carlo in my Maybach 62(sold my 57 since I thought the acceleration was rather slow). He thinks its an innovative design but not quite as contrasting as the old one... So I thought to myself, I will call the Prince of Saudi Arabia to hear his opinion. But the dude told me he kept losing his Virtus due to the heavy sunlight in his country, so that wasn't a very useful feedback. I think it looks quite nice actually but the problem is I keep dropping them because they are so slippery. Quite annoying to keep ordering them from the Nokia board of directors. Bah!

I really REALLY don't know why anybody actually buys these phones, even if I was a multi millionaire I wouldn't even look twice at them. They're ugly low-tech pieces of s**t ! The design is boring and who cares what they're made of! I think the type of people who buy these phones have some sort of personality complex where they feel inadequate so buy something which will draw attention away from their inadequecies and people will think "oooh who's that with the spangly phone!!", would much rather spend the money on a nice car or maybe a charity !

???????????

Maybach 62 and 57 have exactly the same engine but the differences here is its length. Maybach 62 is 6.2m long whereas 57 is 5.7m.
They both have an V12 engine of 550BHP which make these 2800kg beast fly from 0-100km/h in only 5.1 seconds for Maybach 57 and 5.3 seconds for Maybach 62. So I find your statement very strange.

i know u found those specs on internet but it's hard to believe that almost 3tons with big specific air resistance and huge wide 19" tyres goes around 5+s from standstill-100km/h especially couz that engine isnt that strong(i dont know how they tuned transmission, but i know they didnt tune it for drag use) but u never know, maybe maybach is perpetuum mobile that doesnt effect laws of physic

Bently Continental GT make it on 4.8 seconds and it weights about the same... and it also have a 550BHP engine.

BTW Cadilac Sixteen with a 13.6 litre engine on 1000BHP can do it faster but how fast is not yet sure since the car is still under test. The car weights about the same.

6600 ringtone & op logo

Some questions for the experts:

1. Ringtones

If you send an audio file to the sounds folder of the phone using iR and nokia PC suite, will it be "picked up" for use as a ringtone? If not, how do you get an audio file to be used as a ringtone option?

2. Op Logo

Anyone know the ideal size for this logo?

Also, if I change it using FileExplorer utility, can I change it back?

thanks all knowing ones

the 6600 is the best one qua speed etc,
but the 3660 is best buy (price/quality)

in the 3660 you have less memory (ram and rom) than the 6600. The 3660 is aiming for youth, wile the 6600 is a business device, that also explance the morecost. also the battery is weaker in the 3660
3660 standby 150h - 200h and the 6600 240h.
the 6600 supports true tones and skins (aka themes) and TCP/ip (internet protocol).
And ofcourse the layout of the phone is differend, as you probably noticed.

for the rest they are pretty much the same. the diff are very small...

Nokia 6108

All right Guys, here's the deal. I have been seriously considering the SE P900 for a number of weeks and just found out about the Nokai 6108 and hope someone out there can help me.

I need a phone with some PDA functions. My main PDA function is the calander. I have at least 10 appts/day. Is the 6108 going to handle this kind of work out or is its memory too small?

Is there another phone out there that can handle this that is smaller than the P900? My main requirements are size, ability to enter using a keyboard or stylus (I hate predictive text) and ability to sync with MS outlook.

I would appreciate any help on offer.
__________________
im pretty sure the 6108 can only support 250 calander notes like most other series 40 fones
__________________
Just take the P900 and your requirements are
fulfilled. The Nokia 6108 has not the abillities
the P900 has. The Stylus is used specially for
typing SMS messages in the chinese and english
language.

The organizer or calendar in de P900 or 6108 can
not be compared between eachother. The 6108 has
a simple GSM like kalender, which is not very easy to
use when you are considering a P900 organizer.

Syncing with Outlook is easier with the P900 than
with the 6108. You also have to buy an IRDA port or
cable to use the 6108 for synchronizing. The P900
has a delivred in the package.

andyman is correct, the only other nokia phone you can use are either an communicator or an Nokia 7700, the communicator uses a hole keypath and then you have about 16Mb shared memory to make calendernotes with it... so that means about 100 000 calendernotes, but this one isn't small...
And the other one is the 7700, have to come on the marked in June. So you have to be patient. There you've got handwriting recognision as wel as virtual keyboard on screen. and has about 20 Mb shared memory inside. so you can make a lot of appointments with it

Nokia innovates the interactive visual radio

Today, Reidar Wasenius, Senior Project Manager at the Nokia Mobile Phones Entertainment & Media Business Unit, will be in Cannes explaining his company's latest innovations to an audience of music industry pros at MIDEM, the year's biggest music market.

Nokia is a first-timer at Midem 2004. The company wants to hear what the music industry and the professionals have to say about its new device, scheduled for release later this year.
The Nokia 7700 Media Device should be available to consumers from 2Q/2004. It is Nokia's first "media phone", a new type of device with a completely new look, and bursting with properties. In fact it has so many tempting applications that it is almost a surprise to discover that it also serves as a phone, as Wasenius demonstrates. Amusingly, the 7700 must be turned on its side to perform this humble basic function.

The 7700's special application is the so-called "visual radio" function, of which more later. The media device is also the first mobile phone that has the technical wherewithal to enable viewing of digital TV transmissions, when it is hooked up with the Nokia Streamer, a mobile IP Datacast receiver using the DVB-H standard.

A pilot network in the Greater Helsinki area is currently examining how well video and audio can be streamed to mobile devices. Test transmissions are scheduled to start in the autumn. The venture is a collaboration between Digita, the commercial TV broadcasters MTV3 and Nelonen, Nokia, telecoms operators Radiolinja and TeliaSonera, and the Finnish Broadcasting Company (see linked press release below).

Visual radio is an innovation that Nokia intends to bring to its basic mobile handsets in the course of this year, replacing the standard FM-radio that is packaged with some models.

Nokia 6100 memory capacity

Hi,
can anyone tell me how much memory the nokia 6100 should have?

I've seen a friends 7250..and the number of apps and games on it were huge!!

just wondering incase i need some kinda software up grade or something...
__________________
7250 has 4mb (at least the i version) 6100 has near anywere as much: 669kb (0.67MB)

The following features share a memory pool of 669 kB: *

MMS messages (max size 45 kB per MMS message)
Ringing tones in Gallery (20 preset, all removable)
Images (10 preset, up to 35 average size 10 kB images)
Java&153; applications (3 preset, up to 6 max size 64 kB per application)

I have one myself and I have 6 games on it (well 7 actually, but my games I installed came under Applications) a folder full of custom tones and some additional pics. (I deleted most standard wallpapers, because they suck anyway) and still plenty of room for SMS and names.
__________________
software upgrades doesn't help getting bigger memory,
it's hardware, and the first and the last 6100 goes off the shellfs will have the same amount of memory,
so if you really need more memory, buy a 7250 or somekind.

no, it's a enhancement for some nokia phones,
it's a music device, more like a speaker with build-in handfree and charger,
the quality of the sound isn't that great, sounds like a clockradio.

for the question is this compatible with the 6100, NO.
the following models supports it;
The Nokia 3200, Nokia 6220, Nokia 6230, Nokia 6610, Nokia 6800, Nokia 6810, Nokia 7210, Nokia 7250 and Nokia 7250i phones.
but i think you can charge the phone with the stands, but don't see the point of that.
can you use the handfree, i don't think so, but they both support pop-port, and the same UI series 40, you can try...

the best thing about all nokias is the changeable covers, last ight i was running down a hill and triped ova, the phone (and me) took quite a beating, the screen, keypad and camera lens were all scratched. If i had bought the T610, then it would be like that forever, thankfully i can just go out tomorrow and buy a new cover and my phone will be fine again!

To me it sounds like all Nokia users take less care of their handsets so they can change their covers often??
I think changeable covers are more made for personalization than buying them because of scratches.

Another low argument why we should buy a Nokia handset.

Yeah it's kinda true Lockie..Nokia's have interchangeable covers which is a very gd feature come to think of it

Ive had my phone for a month, ive kept such good care of it and when i fell down and the phone got scrathced i was soo bloody worried. they are ment for personalization but they are their if you ever need to change because of scratches......ect. Imagine if you fell down and stuffed up ur T610, what would you do? you would have to go on reading a beaten up screen......ect

I rest my case

Ahh it is not so bad decision after all.
He is going for the Nokia 6230 and it seems to be the best Nokia phone for a VERY long time.
Even better than Sony Ericsson's handsets in the same class.

Not bad decision at all.

plus hes using a 7210 until he gets a 6230 a very wise decision

T610 why? better screen, better camera, nicer ringtones and great quality phones are the Sony.

If i was you i would go for the Motorola E365 at £79.99 on www.orange.co.uk as it has the best of both phones.

I definately would choose the N7250i, (having used the T610 as well ) but thats my preference.

yes the N7250i doesnt have blutoof but i have just preordered the nokia pop port blutoof adapter for my phone.

i also found these blutoof adapters which will work on the phone.

Blutoof Adapter

Blutoof Headset/Adapter

so if you really really gonna need/use blutoof go for the nokia option, but as i said at the start this is only my opinion.

T610. It's streets ahead of any other camera phone at it's price. It's about $300 here.

Why are Nokias overpriced and have rubbish cameras??

I tried to buy one with a good camera and the only one i saw was a 7250 circa £170 and the camera is cr*pola and the screen is not much better either

What one has a good camera under 200GBP

What do you want your camera 4, some are better at displaying on their own screen some are VGA and look ok for e-mail, they all look bad printed.

And to those who say its not worth owning a phone with a camera, who I'm sure will post here.......... Dont buy one.

Just wait for the megapixel camera phones, they wont be long.

As all networks upgrade to EDGE the data transfer speeds will be increased dramatically, They technology exists today to produce Megapixel camera phones but the public need to get use to MMS & video MMS first, They cannot introduce good quality cameras/video cameras until the networks can handle sending the images/videos from the phones.

I estimate in 9 months megapixel phones will be on the market from a number of manufactures. Once they are here you will have nothing to complain about!

why, it's started a long time ago,
in the earlier year when you bought a phone, like philips, sagem, bosch, alcatel, even motorola you had a difficult phone, no easy UI, no real line-up, in these day's small screens, but for the rest those device were quite good (i speek 4 - 6 y ago) qua building quality, reception etc.
Nokia started with a easy to use interface even a child can use it (remember the 5110, 6110, 7110 etc. ).
If you buy an nokia 5110 - 3310 - 7210 etc, they are all based on the same UI, so easy for people to swap fones.
That in combination with a great marketing stratagie,
and popular inovation things like X-press cover and B/W Images, even SMS - ASCII art, and good contacts with mobile operators.
and offcourse good mobile phones with good building quality, i still know people using a 5110 (came on the marked in 1998)...
So they became number one,
/I know some people will disagree but this is my vision how Nokia reached the top.
But most nokia's were already quite expencive those years, but that didn't matter for people who bought such phones, who could afford it anyway in the late 90's (iq 1995 - 1998), people with money...
and because they were expencive and others know it was expencive, more people want it. people wanna show they have money, and it's still so... (just look at the 8850/8910, these are real show-off's)
"Ohhh, you've got a nokia?, cool man"...
Until they launched the 3210, but more the 3310, build quality 2/10, looks 7/10, features 7/10, interface 9/10, populatity 10/10, this was a huge succes, millions were sold, cassa cassa for nokia... A small mobile, with easy interface, lot of fun features, no antenna and covers, with a reasonable price...

They still use the same system qua price of phone...
So, if you are number one, you have some advantiges but also a responsability to others,
first you can risk putting a mobile on the marked that is too inovative, too experimental, too ... can't put it in words but the 5510, 3510, 3650, 6800, 7600, ... speak for themselve (not all of these device were a mistake)
if a new mobile phone is a flop ( low sellings) No problem for nokia, they have cash reserve...
but if you are the marked leader, you have to be worth the leadership, you have to inovate, you have to seduse mobile users with new features, color screen, GPRS, camera, 3G, ... etc, etc... and with new design.
and make them better than the others,
but that is these day's the problem, other phone companies followed the idea of nokia (or copied), presenting a plethora of new product's, good quality, easy UI, fun features, etc...

my idea is there are no bad mobile phones anymore, you just have good, better, best... so the concurrention has growth. And every brand is doing it his way, a better camera, a nice look, better screen, ... etc, but one advantage is also a minus to another, mostly the battery, color screen is nice but it needs more power, a camera is nice, but it cost more memory, and make the device even more expencive... etc... So every device has got his pro and contra, every brand has. Nokia surely hasn't got the best camera's, but hey, they are a gadget, you play with it for a few weeks and after than the fun of it is gone...
and the quality doesn't have to be so great, it's just have to give you an idea of a place, moment, person, that you can send to others, and you don't have to print it out in A3-format (poster).
BTW, my thing is, if you have to make a picture, buy a camera instaid of a phone, surely at this momento, megapix camera phone are comming.

And lastly (this part i'm going to be shorter on)
the screens of nokia are in balance between price/quality/consumtion of battery), what is you've got the best screen, but you only have got an standby time of 1 day... i rather have a mobile phone with a larger standby - callingtime that a wow screen...
ok, that's it for today folks...
PS, sorry that this text is so long, i don't know why i wrote it, even i don't even remember whats on the first line, but hey, i had a great time writing it, finished it in only 12,5 minutes... LOL

Launche dates from nokia 1H

Nokia will probably present some new devices on the 38th International Music Market, January 24. It's a technical and device showcase, so very much chance they will release there a new music device?...
And offcouse we have this edition of 3GSM World Congress 2004 in Cannes, normaly no new devices, but more a showcase of new technologies like new 'Series 90' or 'EDGE', but rumors says then new communicator will be presented there, but i don't think so. untill now, no mobiles has been launched there except the 7110, 5 years ago...
And the date of this year Cebit will be 18 - 24 march... And we all know this means a lot of new mobile phones...
PS. nothing is confermed information...

A new Nokia Music Device, this could use EDGE to download Music direct to a handset. Now that would be a lovely earner for the Networks. And a nice toy!!

that would be good.

Not until data costs get slashed big time, at the present rates, you'd probably be better off buying the damn CD then downloading a song to your mobile!

the combination of the features/HD from the Ipod (even the small one) combined with a mobile phone, doesn't that seem to be a great idea...
so the you get a new mobile phone with a harddisk of 4 Gig to 40 gig for all your mp3, video, ...
hopely then with series 90.

any N-Gage user pls answer!!!

I'm about to buy an N-Gage.
What i wanted to know is can I really use any other headphones (like the ones of sony) or am I doomed to use only the ones that comes within the package?

It could be your SIM Card still in registration process, need a couple of days for it to be activated and able to run GPRS & MMS features... Just call your network operator for confirmation...
