EDGE and GPRS

heylo all .

all these new phones by nokia have EDGE and GPRS system in them . . well the place i live , they have only GPRS .

i was reading the FAQ on the nokia site and it said tht if the phone doesnt find EDGE , then it would SWITCH its self to GPRS automatically. then y is it tht these phones cant connect to gprs and mms on my network??

You can set-up edge and gprs or just one of both, if your network doesn't support edge, just set-up grps settings and the phone won't try to switch to edge. so you use GPRS the hole time...

well i did try to set my phone with all the gprs settings but still it wont connect ..
and plus there isnt any way to manually select gprs or edge mode .

You don't have to have different settings for EDGE, just normal GPRS settings from your operator. If your operator happens to support EDGE and it's available, phone will automatically use it. It's totally invisible to user. The only thing user might notice is the increased data speed.

then y is tht these new phone , 6230 , 7200 are not able to use gprs services??also when i try to bring the gprs settings , they do not come on these cell phones ...

Sure those phones are able to use GPRS services. You just have to get the correct settings from your operator.

guys ....... my country isnt listed there ... i have done all the settings same as tht for 7250 but still doesnt work ........ anyone who owns a 6230 or 7200 and has his mms working without the service provider having EDGE plz let me know ur settings ....

That's why it doesn't work. 7250 uses still WAP protocols to create GPRS connection. 6230 uses TCP/IP and because of this the settings are a bit different. In 6230 you also need to define proxyserver and -port. You'll get these from your service provider.
