EldarMurtazin, Samsung, Motorola, LG, SE, Sagem, Nec, etc. have all introduced UMTS handsets with a dual camera system and rotating camera system. However, Nokia still continues to use single camera located on the backside of the phones. Thus, it is impossible for users to make a video-call... As far I know most of European operators will launch soon 3G services by massively promoting video-calling service to increase ARPU (Average Revenue Per Unit). What is the position of Nokia on this fact? __________________ oops sorry, I missed this detail... Is it a facial camera? ![]() __________________ hahaha....it made me laugh for a second. that was an innovative thinking sebset! regards -sunystory __________________ gaurav311 > Nokia have more power than any operators really Hmm, let me say you I'm a little bit sceptic ![]() Nokia lost 20% of its market share in UK last year, when first wave of camera phones were launched. Vodafone decided to import massively some special handsets like Sharp GX10 and Panasonic GD87 for their own use -and not to chose Nokia as top supplier. I think such a strategy can begin again this year for the launch of 3G accross Europe. > and will have videocallers well before it's too late. Don't forget Nokia is like all other manufacturers -nothing more-. If they can't provide competitive UMTS products quickly, then operators will chose other suppliers... Operators will not wait after Nokia because they have to start commercial phase of UMTS as soon as possible. They invested lot of money in UMTS and expect the best ROI as possible. The deal is to sell a maximum of 3G handsets and they don't care if it is a Motorola, a Nec or a Nokia product. Business is business ![]() However, I want to be optimistic about Nokia and I want to think they will be more reactive than Asian manufacturers. Cross my fingers. __________________ Early video-call functionality on UMTS has been pre-standard and circuit-based 56Kbps crap. Nokia's internal market testing is telling them that the application will not take off until a)the packet standard is implemented offering better performance and b)40-50% of the 3G users can do it. 3 has NO traction on this application at all. Nokia has dual camera 3G phones that they are planning to introduce around the end of the year on the packet standard. __________________ mr.fun, Interesting comments. thanks ![]() >3 has NO traction on this application at all. BTW, what services of 3 UK are the most successful today? __________________ how many country's or providers allready have 3G? not a lot, it's not yet the time to put them on the marked when there is no use to it. I think the succes of videocalling is the pricetag of it, how much will it cost more to call someone with video? hopely not very mych because i'm not going to pay double price for something like that. Don't wanna see my mother when she's calling me... lol __________________ > Don't wanna see my mother when she's calling me... lol Don't think my 50 yo mother will buy a 3G handset anyway ![]() She is from a generation who will never switch to 3G band. __________________ gaurav311, sunystory@hotmail.com, Have a look to the following topic on the German Telefon-Treff forum. Some people asked what is this small thing too. http://www.telefon-treff.de/showthre...hreadid=113620 ![]() Eldar So, what is it? a Led, a sensor? __________________ i heard it is an on-offbutton __________________ No one cares about video-calling right now. In 2-3 years, maybe. Pls remember that NOKIA is a business, not a charity group. If there's ok for them to sell millions of 6610i it's not my problem. Its naive to think that such a powerful company like Nokia doesnt have a good strategy for future device. And they learned a lot from this market = share loss. __________________ Quote:
![]() camera button below: ![]() __________________ and the look was already like SE, so Nokia is really copying SE now!). looks like the world upside down... __________________ Quote:
And it is still a good marketing argument... it is something that you can "SEE"!!!! Here in Denmark, the basic customer who comes to a shop from "3" wants to see the videocall... We have seen what Nokia's policy made at last (c.f. their last results) __________________ it looks nothing like a camera it must be a LED or sumthing __________________ Why video-call should display caller's "talking head"? Would it be more useful to show something caller is looking at? I think that was one of the main reasons why video calls (wired) have never become too popular - there is very little point to look at the "talking head". Mavi forum |
