I got a PQI 256MB card, and it does work, however often times out when sending files through Bluetooth, and also will NOT let you use MP3s stored on the card as a ringtone. It just doesn't play when the phone 'rings'.

I'd stay away from this card. I'm going to get an Apacer, they're more expensive, so hopefully they're better.

I have had the same problems with my second PQI 256 MMC....I did however somehow make it play a MP3 as a ringtone once but most of the time it couldn't.

The frequent timeouts with BT transfering I also had....Only one time, with the use of connection manager, was I able to transfer 248MB from the MMC to the computer.

I had problems with frequent reboots while listening to music and errors with reading the sim-card as well....

The PQI seems to have some problems after all...even though I have had one that worked perfect with non of the above stated problems.

And not to confuse anyone with the updated compatability list of May 10....I didnt put the PQI 256 on the list but got it of the HowardForum..

i think this list can be used for nokia 6600 also, not 100% accurate, but most will do the job fine.

has anyone tried using a RS-MMC card yet with the adapter to make it fit an MMC slot in any of these phones? if that works, may aswell buy those now since thats what it appears is going to be used in future phones

KINGSTON 256, PQI 256 - best to avoid coz having varied results among users

there are a lot of threads/posts all over the internet about which mmc brands are better for 6230...

kristof.vanriet, which will be the ordered version of this list according to "best-choice-to-make" or "most-compatible" criteria?
which mmc brand(s) do you use for your phone?

10x in advance...

I use Sandisk, somewhat more expancive but very reliable... And the standard Nokia MMC card.

And a MMC card is eighter compatible, or not.... so make a list of the most-compatible cards is difficult...

ok, thanks. i understand.
but then why 'KINGSTON 256' appear in both lists: compatibility-list and to-avoid-list?
can you please detail a little "varied results among users"?

Can SD cards be used instead of MMC cards? Are they same (dimensions, operation, etc.)?

What is the max MB capacity of the compatible cards? I mean there are a few 1 GB cards in the list, does the phone support that size?
__________________
No, SD cards can't be used instead of MMC. some small differences;

SD and MMC are both flash memory cards.

SD card is thicker (2.1 mm)
SD card is more durable
SD card transfer rate is max 10MB per second
SD card is more secured (like the name say's; secure digital

MMC is thiner (1.4 mm)
MMC transfer rate is max 2.5MB per second
MMC is cheaper

If it's in the list, the MMC is tested in a 6230 and ready for usage.

Thanks kristof.vanriet

I am about to buy a Pretec 256MB. What do you think, is it a good MMC card? Have you any recommendations?

Do you know a good online seller (international shipper) for MMC cards.

Ok what am I doing wrong?????
Just got a 256mb twinmos mmc card, formated it with my reader. My pc reconizes it and i can put files onto it. When I put it in the phone its not reconizing it no files are seen. I cant format it with the phone or even rename it. I've tried file systems fat and fat32 and no luck! Please Help Me!!!!

strange normaly fat works...
try do this

1. Connect card reader and copy all your files in the MMC to computer disk.
(Make sure you set the show all/hidden/os files to "on")
2. Do a format of the MMC using command line "format" and use the /A=size option.
Alternative, you can use the Disk Management in Adminstrative Tools to format.
Make sure you select FAT16. For 256MB MMC, smallest block you can use is 4K, 128MB is 2K, 64Mb is 1K and 32MB is 512B.

For those who have problem with command line format::

Just use the Disk Managament to format

1. Goto Start->control Panel->Administrative Tools->Computer management->Disk management
2. Select your MMC drive. Right-click and select "Format"
3. Select "FAT". Choose Allocation size. For 256Mb MMC select 4K, 128Mb MMC select 2K, 64Mb MMC select 1K and 32Mb MMC select 512B

kristof, no luck the phone still wont properly see the card. It wont let me rename it, it just restarts the phone. i cant even add a folder to it, but it all works fine on the pc and reader. Thanks anyhow!

good info....
SD cards reletive to the MMC cards have a faster transfer rate since the MMC card is limited to one data pin out compared to the SD which has 2.

The "secure" part of the secure digital wouldn't really effect phone users w/ personal data storage.... The security is really for copywrited media/data so it would really only be useful for companies distributing software/media.

MMC IS cheaper for manufacturers to produce BUT w/ the SD release came a huge marketing campaign by the companies who endorsed the SD card thus making the SD card more common in the beginning. This dragged the pricing for the SD card lower upon its release. Now the prices are very similar....
