Nokia lost market share in the first quarter.

Lack of mid-tier and clamshell phones badly hurt Nokia's first quarter result as Nokia lost market share in the first quarter of 2004. Nokia's CEO says, Nokia will introduce 40 new models in 2004. Of the 40, at least 6 will be clamshell phones. Read the full article below:

Thanks

this is because of nokia's making phones with same properties. they do not make a fone like motorola v1000 for example

well they better do that fast. supposing that in this year, on average, should be 10 phones a quarter... and first quarter saw like 4 phones...(6610i, Ngage QD, 6255, 7610)

Don't you think this all could be made up? Ever heard about companies, buying own shares at lowest possible price to sell later at higher?

Up to my knowledge clamshell phones are not all that popular, especially for marine conditions... though those may be a matter of fashion now.

Actually Nokia makes hell lot of different phones, some fast, some slow, some unique... Though low-end range has disappointed many fans...

clamshell phones are rising very fast. with in 2years there will be more clamshell phones then candybar phones.

not many people think about the marine conditions, neither do it. most people care about design, i care about specs.

nokia has always had bad Q1's but this one was abit worse because they miss interpeted the market.
but now there on a big come back. i've heard alot of the upcomming models. there isn't anything special (by that i mean something that will blow our minds of, so nothing inovatiative). i'm sure they'll regain alot of market share in Q3 and Q4.

as you can see i'm a big SE fan. but sometimes you need to see things with an objective eye. you've got those crazy people that really hate nokia and want them to get broke. but thats overreacted, just think of all the people that work there.

oyea nokia will not regain the name of making the best phones this year. they haven't introduced anything special yet and the new phones are just the same.
the sendoX, treo600, P900, next Pxxx, S700, GX32 are still amoung the best in the high segment. so i think that some nokia fans will cross over to another brand.

I totally disagree, Nokia outsell all the other smartphone manufacturers by far. Nokia have the 7610 and 9500 slated for Summer and Late 2004 releases.
Compare the sales figures for the Treo 600, SX1 & P900 to the 6600 and Nokia's smartphone lineup and you'll see who'll leading that segment. I think Motorola with their MS-powered phones have a better chance at getting at Nokia in the smartphone than SE and their UIQ phones.
Sharp's GX30/32 have their own market segment but I wouldn't consider them a major player in a while. When Sharp decide to launch phones without operators like Vodafone, i think they can become huge. As well as the fact that the GX30/32 is no substitute for a smartphone..
The Sendo X hasn't been released yet, and considering Sendo's distrubtion channels and popularity, I don't think they can threaten Nokia, especially if the handset's release is pushed back.
The S700 is just a GX30/32 with an SE badge and menu. I think its a cool device, and it would be a popular phone, but its positioned differently and made not to compete with the smartphones of the Pxxx series.
If SE wants to get more market share in the smartphone segment, they'll need to release a Series60 competitor, or make the sucessor to the Pxxx smaller, which is unlikely considering that a smaller screen would make its PDA functionality even less interesting. The P200 which was cancelled could have had a chance to compete with Series60, and who knows, maybe such a device would eventually come out that would target and possibly capture some of Nokia's market share, to SE's benefit. Of course, I'm speculating, the mobile phone world can be so unpredictable at times..

Very interesting thoughts, after using both Symbian OS phones and Windows Mobile OS phones I prefer Windows Mobile.. unfortunately only the MotoMPX200 and the SPV E200 are available on Belgian soil and they are both prices at around 500 euros where as Nokia Series60 phones range from the cheap N-Gage to the reasonably expensive 6600 (which is still cheaper than the Windows Mobile OS phones). Belgium has always been a Nokia sales threshold so I don't think it represents anything on the world scene, but if Motorola can do a difference and release Windows Mobile OS phones massively everywhere than I'm looking forward for that time.

Thank you, that was the document I read with the smartphone figures. If Eldar is correct, then it's gonna look very different next year..

Wow, how does that compare to the present V500 & V600 wholesale prices, just to have an idea of its price in the retail market (after sales tax and so on)? Thank you.

Wow, the mpx100 is going to be so cheap! Considering it's features, this phone is going to sell like crazy. Thank you very much for your information Eldar, cheers

if they really manage to get mpx100 to the market starting from 240 euros it will possibly get in the guinness book of records as the best selling phone of all times.

even though from reading his reviews i know eldar is very well rounded about the mobile market, I still find this estimate a little bit optimistic. i'd prefer to wait and see.

He is referring to the wholesale price, the V500 sells for 300 euros, the V600 sells for around 420 euros. If the MPX100 is released at 300 euros retail price.. my god it will sell like crazy.

i'd say the same for 300 euro retail price, and of course agree with you, it will sell like crazy. the rest of 2004 will be a crazy period of competition in the mobile market i guess.
