Another Nokia phone Exploded !!!

another nokia phone exploded in the pocket of ......
i think nokia can help army forces for producing mobile BOMBs!
Quote:
A Nokia mobile phone exploded in a man’s pocket in Vietnam’s central city of Danang, State media reported today, in the latest such incident to occur.
The unnamed man, who worked for the Ministry of Finance-owned accountancy firm AAC in the city, told the Tuoi Tre newspaper that his Nokia 8310 phone was not in use at the time of Thursday's tiny blast.

"The mobile was in a normal state in my trouser pocket and there were no communication at that time when suddenly I heard a little explosion and my phone became hot," he said.

"I took it out and found the mobile was off and I couldn't use it." The man, who suffered no injuries, said the blast caused a thumbnail-sized hole in the handset's front cover and blackened the screen.

He said he had bought the phone with a 12-month guarantee from an official Nokia supplier in April last year for around US$335 (RM1,273).

The man said he had not replaced any parts since he bought the handphone.

u sound like a guy from nokia retailer *joking*

MY experience with N-Gage..PLz REad On

hey guys....i only planned of writing this seeing the general impression of ngage in the forum.....i myself wud hav never bought this fone if i hadnt got it free(see thread: i won a free ngage)

Alright , 1st I will comment on the side talking business. yes, ppl go on making fun of it...but i bet u, they r those ppl who havent tried using an ngage....its feels absolutely normal when using the ngage..yes its diferent but absolutely normal..its jus sayin that if ppl were used to talking this way, then they wud find talking in the traditional way weird..when u can accept new features, designs etc..y not new way of talking....

Second is its functionality......trust me , I think it is probably the best fone for the price...it has everything....real one....mmc card.....anything u can possibly imagine from a current advanced device.....including the possibility to play high quality games, trust me for a gamer, this cell is heaven........all the criticizing is for nuthing.....guysplz..try this fone before commenting...

and atlast sumthin which is annoying, its size..its almost impossible to use it with single hand....,,,,.....

i jus wanted to clear the misconception surrounding this fone....i wud still not hav bought this fone...prob bought jus a gameboy advance coz i tend only to play at home..but seriously.....its a really good fone...and i will say it much better than 3650

Any comments/questons welcome

cheers

what about the display ? i think it's not so bright for playing all games ... and the phone is not handy and pocket size ... ??? but we know that all nokia displays not advanced and bright ... like samsung,se, ...
i think better waiting for new model of N-gage with better display and smaller size !

i know this ll sound weird but the screen of ngage is better than the 65k T610....the games on ngage are absolutely perfect, better than gameboy for those who have tried rayman, tombraider etc......

the size, i have no comments....as ive written bfore..its impossible to use one hand
__________________
Well said Rajat, it is a decent phone for sure, probably one of Nokia's best phones upto date. But on the other hand, if someone calls you and you have no bluetooth ear pieace, then it can be rather an embarassing experience...
__________________
Well i was'nt sure if i should get one or not but i think you've just persuaded me
__________________
N-gage is really nice phone to have....its price is not too high...it almost have everything....BUT....unfortunately it left out the camera....

I have tested out the phone...its screen is built under TFT technology....although it only support 4096 colour...but the screen is bright and clear...it is more that enough to play with some games....

Nokia....release a N-gage2 with camera and 65k TFT screen...!!!!...I am waiting for it....

well i think a camera is necessary in such a segment, ppl go off to buy 6600 and pay a lot more just for the cam......
__________________
Yes a camera would of made it that bit better but i think its pretty impressive without a camera besides a camera would of just made it more expensive.

Also i have heared over in some N-gage forums that a Bluetooth camera maybe coming out that is compatible with the N-gage
__________________
If that Bluetooth camera is Vga, then it is not very interesting...
__________________
the ngage is really good... put it really depends if it fits your lifestyle..if you commute a lot or a student that walks around with headphones in your ears all day the ngage will defintiely fit your needs.

if your day consists of driving to work/school and sitting in an office and drinking at a pub then going hoem to watch tv and sit in front on the computer then the ngage is not for you.

it's a greta symbain phone with cam would have made it even better... but the sideways talking is still a no go for me..the first time i tried it i answered it the wrong way..from that point on ..headset only..

Build in camera is the best to have....external camera is just making trouble....

Actually i can't be assed with a camera like i said mobile cameras are still nothing brilliant anyway and any how this is a better idea if you have a Digital camera you can use the MMC cards from that put them in N-gage then take the pics off the card onto the phone then send them to people and the picture quality will be 1000x better than any phone camera.

3200 telephone icon on screen saver bar

Got my 3200 today, and very happy with it as a replacement for my ageing 7210.

One note is that on the screen saver bar that shows a digital clock I also get a key icon, which is obvious, and a telephone icon the same as the one that is shown when in a call.

Any ideas why this telephone icon is shown?

Software Version

V a3.12
19-11-03
RH-30
(c) Nokia

Thanks

This means you have a missed call you havent cleared.

If there was a message symobl it would mean you had a message in the inbox.
__________________
This must be a bug then as I did have a missed call but have cleared it from the standby screen...

Good old Nokia and there poorly tested firmware, took me 30 mins to spot this one.

If this is the only bug I suppose it's not that bad.
__________________
I've worked it out.

If you click View when you've got a missed call you don't get the icon on the screen saver bar.

If you clear a missed call you get the icon on the screen saver until you enter Call Register and Missed Calls.

Suppose sensible in a way, as you never looked who you missed the call from, just like if you clear a new message received it still keeps the envelope on the standby and screen saver screens.
__________________
thats the same as on my 3100...
__________________
That's no bug!

It tells you, you have a missed call, when in screensaver mode.

A bug, LOL!

When you get an SMS it will show you an enveloppe and if you have both (also missec cal) it will show phone and enveloppe.

And if it's lockeck and on silent, you have 4 icons in the clock-bar.
__________________
I agree now it's not a bug, although it is inconstant with the standby screen which does not show an icon for unread missed calls.

I can give you a bug, if you select Set As Wallpaper to an image in the Gallery it regularly sets the Wallpaper setting to off so you get a white screen, if you turn it back on again it will be the file you selected.
__________________
Please dun always complain that bugs in Nokia's software....it may only some user friendly functions that you are not understood....!!!!
__________________
There is nothing user friendly about selecting 'Set to Wallpaper' from an image opened in the gallery when this then promptly turns off the wallpaper but does assign the correct file if you turn it back on.

As for the comment I started the forum with, I did jump the gun, although this feature is not documented in the user guide.

As for bugs in Nokia software there always seem to be silly obvious ones that are missed like the wallpaper issue above.

Maybe Nokia should make firmware's user installable like on digital cameras.
__________________
I never had that wallpaper "bug" as you mentioned.

Also, on standby mode, it does give you a missed call warning, no icon, why an icon? It says it all over you screen x MISSED CALLS.
__________________
If you read my post you'd see that if you clear (opposed to read the number of the missed call) it still remains on the screen saver bar, until you enter call register and look at missed calls.

As for the wallpaper bug what software version do you have *#0000# on your phone, I have V a3.12.

Neil

Hmmm seems I don't have both. (so if I clear it, it's gone on screensaver bar)

I.E. I do not have an N3200 but a N6100, but I was like....it's all the same for all Nokia's operating with that software

BUt okay, the 3200 is newwer and it'll probably be fixed in later firmwear versions.

With regard to your comments on firmware, I think Nokia want a greater hold over who has, is using and is repairing there phones, just think, every call to Club Nokia to ask “Where is my local Club Nokia Service Point” will be logged. Your Name, Address, Age, Phone Model, IMEI etc will be taken. Also when you take your phone for a warrenty repair IMEI & Name will also be taken.

So imagine all the data Nokia can pull from the databases, what phone appeals to what type of person? Age of person and the Phone model they have? Phone popularity to geographic areas? This will all help when designing and planning new phones & marketing campaigns will work allot more efficiently. i.e. phone that sells allot more to school children, they will advertise the newer model on bus stops near schools!

Try to look at the bigger picture, not just what’s the easiest measure for us customers!!!

mrzippy

I have seen this "Bug" and im sure it will be fixed in a later version of Firmware. You can get round it by going: Settings > Display > Background Image. Turn background image off then on again and it will ask you to select an image which you wish for the wallpaper. It doesn’t happen all the time and is a strange one.

3100 covers....I NEED TO KNOW QUICK

hey i am thinking of getting 3100. really close to getting it. i need help quick. is there covers for 3100 which looks like 7210, 6100, 7250.etc. i know the actual covers of other models wont fit on a 3100. but are there ones made specifically for 3100, which look like 7210, 6100, 7250, etc?????

hey guys. i played around with a sonyericsson t610 and its pretty cool. nice ringtones and stuff. one mad thing about it is u can cuztomize the layout of the phone, the theme i mean. i am just wondering if a 3100 can compare to it.

i mean is the display of a 3100 more brighter than t610 in real life?? i know t610 is 65k but i mean brightness wise.

and can u put themes in a 3100? u can on a t610. like change the layout to have a lord of the rings look.
__________________
i don't think the 3100 has got themes. The icon's stay the same, just the operator logo, wallpaper and ringingtones are changable. but those mobile phones, T610 vs N3100 have a price difference, T610 is 300Euro wile the nokia 3100 is only 200 Euro...

help! nokia 6220

Is there anyway to transfer files from nokia 6220 to a Mac?

i think this will be a hard one, Nokia PC suite only support windows (that's why it called 'PC' suite...) and on the mac you have something called Isync, but those only support Symbian OS phones, like the 3650, 6600, etc...
And I didn't found thirth partie software either so, mayby in the future

normaly at this moment most operators have mms capability's. so just call Virgin support line and ask them to activate your account and they will send an SMS to you with the setting you need.

As to the topic, it's been discussed on here many, many times before; my suggestion is to wait for the 6230 to come out and test them both.

nokia 7600...

hey guys, i have not posted here in a while... i am enjoying my nokia 3300 and its a great phone.... although the backlash is annoying... maybe i just misused it... the most annoying thing about it is that people confuse it with the stoopid ass ngage... but the cool thing is that attracts for some strange reason attraction... what i like a lot is the fact that it glows in the ddark... thats pretty drn cool, so when i look for my phone in the dark i cn find it with no problems... anyway i tried to hook up the nokia camer with the pop port, but my software does not support it... so a big for nokia... anyway i relaised that a camera is a must... i was thinkin of buying a samsung, but everybody has a samsung, and it is boring to have an identical cell phone, like a sheep in a herd... so i decided to c what nokia has to offer on that field... but because of the money issue, i will sell my phone and buy a new one with mp3 and camera...

the two phones that stick out r the 6230 and 7600... cause the 6230 has a boring design i will go for the 7600... now come my questiones...

will the pictures b stored on the mmc card or the phone?
is the screen and camera the same as on n6600, if yes, what r ur impressions of those functions on that phone... when will the phone be available and in what price range...

cheers to all...ž

__________________
the screen size is defenitly a diffence, 128-160 vs 176-208 pixels, but the VGA mode is the same, 65K colors...
The camera is the same VGA camera
No MMC card is in the phone, neither a slot for them... the phone has got a memory of 29 Mb intern and ofcourse the pictures will be stored there.

another huge difference is the operating network, while the 6600 only support GSM 900/1800/1900, the 7600 is a 3G or WCDMA phone with GSM 900/1800.

the phone is already on the marked and for sale in some country's but not a lot...
the price is quiet high because it's a fashion phone and i thought is was around 600 Euro, and that's a lot for the features it's got...
__________________
you can buy it on www.nowicom.de for only 650 Euro ;-)

i have looked at the 7600 but i am very put off by the design but other than that its a great fone and i hopeu like it...

thanks, by having such a small memory this means that the quality of mp3 will have to be reduced or switch to acc, and i have not found yet a usefull mp3 to acc converter, unfortunatley... i will wait for it to come to the shop in prague where i bought my n3300... the diffrence between the price in prague and my hometown zagreb is enormous.... i bought it in the shop in prague for 250 euros, iand n a shop in zagreb the offical nokia its 450 euros!!!! what a diffrence huh? so i am hoping to get the 7600 for around 400 euros or less... ) ... the design is not bad... actually it is very attractive... and i like the way the keypad is laid out... the n3300 you have to use with two hands, and i realized its not a bad thing, but actually good, because there is a lesser strain on the hand then classical clamshells or candy phones... so the n7600 also has to be used with two hands... oh yeah and i like the fact that when u take pictures u have to hold the phone like a real camera... and another plus is that its actually rather small... on the pix it looks big, but when i read the dimesnions i was in shock... i am hoping till the middle of march i will have this phone... and i also like the leather covers... )... thank you for your advice and opinion kristof.vanriet -The Andyman-

cheers!

plz help everyone which phone to get

heylo guys. i need some fast opinions. i need to get a phone out of these 3 . i dont want functions or anything . all i want is style and a phone which simply impresses others .

6600 -- 381$
6220 -- 309$
8910i -- 290$

i just want a stylish phone which really looks nice on the hand and is worth the money i am paying for it .

(these phones are owned by my friend and he is selling them for this price)
__________________
hmmm....... u wanna impress??? Then get the 6600!!!

The 6600 will impress more than the 6220 & 8910i!!

U may also wanna consider the 8910i as its very Prestige!!!

I doubt the 6220 will impress much, as its style is only classic.

The 6600 has a very unique style, its a bit heavy, but not alot. The 6600 also has a cool back! It looks prettyyyy kool when in the hand!

4get the 6220, either get the 6600 or the 8910i, but i recommend the 6600! The 6600 is a very elegant. unique, HIGH-class fone!

The 6600 is also a very entertaining & fun fone to hav, its full of features too... i know u said u dont care bout features, but u might aswell care, cos if ur fone dont hav kool features, its not gonna impress much, Is it?

Take my advise, and get the 6600, it'll make all ur friends and everyone jealous!!!

So??? He didnt say he wants a fone with FM stereo did he??? ne way y would ne 1 want a FM stereo? Ok u might need it, but...

The 6600 is still better than the 6230! The 6230 has a very poor/small screen, with very low resolution!
Although the quality is not bad, the fone i dont like that much! The video quality however has improved alot! The 6230 has MP3 player, but 6600 also has MP3 player SOFTWARE that can b downloaded! And both support MMC! But otherwise the 6600 is better!

However im only talkin bout the current preview fone (6230), Nokia may improve the handset!!! But i can tell u that the current 6230 preview model, isnt very spectacular, the only gd thing is the built quality + video quality!

8910i definatly u want style u cant get much better than the 8910i

I agree, N8910i is the most stylish phone among those 3 phones...

Anyway....8910i is only major in its stylish....nothing special is its features....

Although 6600 is features wise...but it is a smartphone....it is not easy to get familiar with its features...in other words...it may not suitable for someone...like me(it depeds)....somemore it is hugh in size...too bulky...

6220 is the most worthy to buy among the 3 phones...but...why dun wait for a month of time until the releasing of 6230?....you may regret if u get one the 3 phones now....

But...how does 6230 cost at that time?....I am so curious about its price...hehehe!!!

question, is this a on-line shop you buy it? I just think the price of the 8910i is very low, here in belgium the phone cost 700 Euro and that's the reason i don't buy it here, but i like the design very much.

for what choice you better take,
if you want a device that can do a lot, take the 6600, features are just great, good screen and easy to use
if you want a design statement take the 8910i, but the screen isn't that good, but it's a beauty from the outside
and if you want the 6220, wait for a month for the 6230, this is a small mobile which has got a lot of features like the 6600, MMC card, 65K screen...

on the 6230 the phone got an mediaplayer for video and sound, but doesn't support realone, sad... :-(
realone is only for symbian OS...
you can play H.263 video, MPEG-4, and AMR audio packed in a .3gp format, but i don't know if you can play a hole episode from the simpsons. Memory isn't so big in this phone, i thought it is only 0.5 Mb ram.

and lastly (off topic), the fifteenth season (simpsons) is already downloadable from the Kazaa network, just great new episodes... homer becomes a robot, the simpsons get snowball 5, Krusti get a Bar Mitzvah, homer vs bear, the simpsons in the uk with tony blair, etc etc...

Helpppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3100, 7210, 6100, 7250

hey do these phones have same colour display. i know they all got 4096 colours. but i heard 7250 has brighter display or something.

Nah same screen all the way. I have a 6100 and my brother a 7250. Screen is the same.

Well as you might know from other post I really like the 6100. One of the coolest Nokia's ever in my opinion (ok there always be better ones....)

If you need a stylish (business)Phone and no gimmicks as radio and camera (which are fun for 3 weeks, then you never use it again) go for the 6100.

It's up to YOUR taste. So pick what YOU like.

its true my 3100 is much more brighter and sharper than my 7210 screen and its the same except nokia realised where they went wrong and fixed up the screen on 3100 i guess

yeah,
my 7210 is pretty dim,
but i think it was one of nokias first series40 colour
screen phones,
and my phone was one of the first batch ones,
however, it is important what cover u use too,
it can affect the brightness

is there a BIG difference between 4096 and 65 k??????

hey is there big difference between 4096 and 65 k colour? i mean does anyone have a site that shows the pics of both. i wanna see both compared. i'd rather go for 65k colour if there is a big difference. but may go for 4096 colour if not big differemn. will pics of faces be clear on a 4096? by the way. which is the cheapest 65k colour phone?? has to be either samsumg, nokia, sonyericsson

well, you can imagine that 4096 can have way less smooth color transitions and less smooth anti-aliasing as 65.000 colors.
I myself find 4096 colors enough to have a nice display. I mean do you really want menu's in 65k? 4096 does the job.
It's only in games (well and if you use your phone as a camera/video capturing device) that 65K truelly stand out.
For me using a Nokia 6100 for calling and a simple, yet highly adictive game of Hearts, 4096 is more than enough.

no... 80x60 8bit & 1600x1200 64bit!!!!!! lol

There is a big difference from what i've seen, the early colour screen Nokias have pretty crap screens compared to new 65K screens. But no images you find on the internet will show the difference properly, if you want to really see the difference, go to a phone shop and have a sales rep show you the two side by side, and you'll see a massive difference!

You never think about to buy a phone by 4096 clours screen when you have seen phone by 65k screen
__________________
Of course there are big differences between 4096 and 65k colour display but it all depends on the resolution.

Nokia use to have 128x128 pixel display which means it can display 16384 colours at the same time if you have different colours per pixel.
So it is easy to figure it out how big the differences are between 4096 and 65k.

Not even 4096 colours is enough for many of handsets from Nokia.

I dun think so....I have compared a 4096 and 65k colour screen at the same time....actually there are not much different between 4096 and 65k colour(65k may only sharper a bit)....the quality of a picture viewed on the screen is depends on the screen's resolution(176x208 will be clearer than 128x128) and the technology using(TFT must be better than STN)...this is my experience....

Depends of the color depth of the display. If you have 12-bit color screen, it cannot show 16348 colors at the same time, but if you have 16-bit color screen, for sure it can show more than 16348 colors at the same time.

LOL indeed, if you look at it that way I can give an even better answer, better yet, THE BEST.

What's the difference?

60904 colors to be exact.

Zaratustra

you can send images to a pc with a 7250i and back again. just use phone browser in nokia pc suite. ive done it plently of times. u dont need a data cable

8850 vs. 8890

Please,if someone knows, are housings of 8850 and 8890 exact the same,or there is slightly difference in shades(colours). I've read that 8890 has different colour of the housing then 8850,but I'm not sure
THX
Or 8850 owners can post a really good picture of their pet so i can compare
__________________
the only difference between is that the 8850 is a 900/1800 phone, and the 8890 is a world phone supports the 1900 frequentie

The 8850's casing is a bit greenish, the 8890's is greyish! U can't notice it that much!

But it is true (well don't know 'bout the color, but what Kristof said is true)

help me decide...

im currently using a n7650.
love the fone, function.. overall everything
about n7650.
but i need an upgrade of having 65k colors, mp3 playable, n fm radio.

so as it's 2004, a new years resolution.. i cant decide between a n6230 and n6600. or u guys here hav a better suggestion?

thanks...
__________________
Since you already get used to N7650 which is running symbian OS, my suggestion is pick N6600 instead...
Size shouldn't be matter to you anymore considering it is not as huge as N7650...
__________________
dats a good point, but doest the n6600 play mp3? dat's the only different between those two rite??
__________________
if you want, you can download and install programs that can read an play mp3's on the 6600, it's not standard inside the phone, but they work all right,.. but never the less, no stereo sound, that's a shame...
I think for you the 6600 is the best choise, you are used to a large screen, and the operating system...
there are several differences between the 6600 and the 6230, the most you see from the outside, but symbian or a series 40 is a huge difference... the 6230 has got radio, but the 6600 has got realone player (streaming audio/video over GPRS), and some others like the 6230 has got animated screensavers, chatfeature, EDGE and pop-port... but on the other hand the 6600 has got True tones.. it's dipends on what you need the most
__________________
if you pleased with nokia phones ...
i recommend you 6230 with reasonable price and handy , worthy , ... more than 6600 !!!
__________________
i agree with eccentric since u r running a 7650 u should be very used to the symbian os

just a side note i was wondering which fone company was the first 2 have a built in camera???

i thought 7650 was but im not so sure...
__________________
SE was the first with color, and i'm pretty sure that nokia was the first with a built in camera, and that would be the 7650,
__________________
get the 6600!

The 6600 will b better 4 u than the 6230!

The 6600 is very kool fone that is not to b under-estimated!!!!
__________________
thank for all the help guys..im gonna decide on d n6600(fatboy as we call it here, hehe). but i heard rumors that an upgrade model call "n6600i" ? is this true??
__________________
mayby in the future they'll bring a new 6600, but not at this moment, the device is up to date and don't see reasons for upgrading it already, 65K, Memorycard, Mp3, Java MIDP2, triband, Symbian 7.0s, ... mayby the'll make it a 3G phone, that's possible
__________________
If compare between 6230 and 6600....of course 6230 has more functions that the 6600....somemore it is smaller in size and easier to get used to the functions....

However....6230 loses to the 6600 in the size of screen....6600 has the best screen among Nokia....

so....do you know which phone to get now???
