I think you should use 64 kbit mp3, no diffrence for a phone speaker but smaller in size.

Listen to my own-made ones! You could the mp3 one on your 6600 I use both in my Moto MPX200 in WAV-format.

I've made also an Matrix-ringtone (WAV-format)

Just beam it by infrared or bluetooth, or download the ringtone via internet (enter the URL in your phone)

In the folder /ringtones or something? Or you can put them on your MMC card (from yout PC) and insert the card in your phone, play the sound, choose options 'set as ringtone'?

i use the mmc card reader... put the mp3 in the mmc card then into the phone...

the nokia offical website say can use true tone.... they didnt mention about using mp3 as ring tone...
i use WB-AMR format or wav format for ring tone...

well, it`s says on page 96.

Im quoting this!

NOTE: To use MIDI,AMR,WAV,MP3 and othersound files as ringing tones, they must be stored in the Digital sounds folder in the Gallery

This thing is I don`t have a MMC card reader and when I send a MP3 over to my phone through BT it says it does not reconise the file.

i believe that n6600 cannot support mp3 at all unless using 3rd party software to play it... so dont even mention about using mp3 format as ringtone...
i had tried that long time ago... so i know that it cant support at all... the only way is using either wav or amr format...
maybe your guide book has an error on it....

Look at that! Cool! Isn't it?
That much misleading info... even from the same people!

Real player technically could play mp3, but there is no way for you to make it recognize the file type, since mp3 support has been deliberately removed
