Oh my god, what have they done with the menu???

http://www.mobileburn.com/gallery.jsp?Page=4&Id=723

I mean, these S60 phone are capable of showing some beautiful graphics, but what the... is this? It looks like the grid menu of the 6230. I know you can download themes that make the icons as good looking as can be, but why don't they want to show of with their phone. This menu is really ugly.

good review
but it is not complete
the phone looks damn good

Standard skin really sucks, overly simplistic icons have been criticised many times already... If red-black could be stylish, pink-gray does not make any sense...

With rich full-color skin it looks and feels much more attractive

... not exactly, it does not replace ugly icons set

The 7610 has themes that change everything, including icons. The original S60 theme is there.

I know. But it does not include original icon set.

Of course 6600 skins could be used instead, but again there will be some "leftovers", not covered by 6600 icon set.

Hopefully current standard skin and its icon set will be changed altogether.

why do i have the feeling that u r againist the 7610 ?

the point of skins/themes is that you can replace it if you don't like it... so if you don't like the special standard icons of 7610, take some others, the original S60 theme will normaly be present

No, I like the phone, I just don't like standard skin.
To me it was unusable until I changed the skin... just because it didn't look nice enough

Also I am a bit concerned about some widely anticipated but missing features like stereo output. Personally I don't need it and would hardly miss it ever, but others...

Certainly. But standard skin makes very first impression. My own first impression was rather repellent because of that.

Yeah, if you look at pictures of that menu, people might not buy it because it's bad looking. Not too many people know about themes or where to get them from. I know that some of these Symbian 7 themes are really beautiful (I've seen some on the 6600, which made me wish my SX1 had that possibility) but what I just don't get is why Nokia don't want to show of the capabilities of this phone. It has a high res 65k screen, why do they throw in a ugly theme that could've been displayed by a 256 color screen with half of the current pixels.

could someone post an example theme? =)....

thanks

Only the bottom one has normal menu icons. The others all are flat, 2d, 2/3 colors, etc. but they all look much better than the standard one.

what i meant that the icons are changeable.. it cant be considered a real weak point in the phone that its standard set of menus not really pretty!!
Beside, the opnion about how the icons look might varies between a person and another !

Actually the icons can be anything you want them to be,
i just personally prefer the 2D one of the first two, if you don't
like the 2D ones how about the sx1 icons on the 6600?

or show girls?

There's actually a windows xp theme too, with the exact same
icons set as the windows xp desktop. Sorry no screen shot

I just think that Nokia should've made beter looking menu icons. The 7700's icons for instance look beautiful, so they are capable of doing so.

Um.. Did you upload the wrong pic or did you mean it as a joke?
there's no xp icons in that picture.

also how are you so sure that the 7610 has no stereo sound?
Someone on hofo has a prototype and it plays stereo sound though?

Initially I planned to upload two pictures, but since it is not instantly visible I dropped the other one. Here it is now.

Regarding how sure I am - I stopped that discussion some time ago, everyone will have a chance to figure out who's right and who's not in a few weeks, when 7610 will hit the market.

Plays stereo sound through what? There is no stereo accessory supported by the phone. What an amaizing coincidence!

If "someone" has such a prototype, I'd like to know its HW id, so I can be more specific. Maybe that prototype has IR-port too?

Sorry wasn't trying to start an argument, i just nver subscribed to the argument that jus cause no stereo accessary is supported on the nokia website, after all the 6600 supported the stereo headset accessary that didn't mean it had stereo capabilities did it?

And i never recalled you explaining how you are so sure, if you said it before and i missed it, or if you do have a prototype too, i sincerely apologise. But yeah Michael from mobileburn says its mono only, this conflicts with what "gangstar" before from the same forum. So i don't think the future looks too bright. Yeah Nokia really knows how to cripple a phone.

Sorry for my lack of comprehension skills

ghost2501 is right, not including a stereo headset as accessory doesn't mean that it don't support stereo sound. The stereo headset is mostly used for FM Radio. I'm very sure that the 7610 will support stereo sound output, because it's useless (very useless) to say and mension that there's an MP3/ACC player in the phone which is RealPlayer, in previous S60 devices, RealPlayer couldn't play these formats. So what's the use of playing MP3/ACC with a mono output?

I'm reading and hearing very conflicts infos regarding the 7610, Michael (from MobileBurn) said that a Nokia USA official said that it won't support stereo output, another one said that a Nokia team said unfortunately the MP3/AAC music are used to add them in ur clip by using the Directer app NOT playing them in RealPlayer, and finally I asked a Nokia official here and said that IT DOES support stereo outport. Very Weird.

are there radio in ????

No, there is no RADIO in there !!

7610 uses the POP port system connector (first seen on the 7210) which inherently supports stereo audio.

you can use a Radio Headset to listen to the radio by pop-port

I prefer listen to MP3...cos the reception of the radio is always not stable and quite annoying...

I heard there isn't stereo output to listen mp3s. Anyone tested it?

Not again...

What else needs to be tested? No stereo output
